Florida Temporarily Seizes Texas' Crown of Suckitude

Adult Butt-head strikes again!

(1) "I understand that these events took place many years ago, and that you may not be able to collect all the relevant records and physical evidence. However, Mrs. Schiavo's family deserves to know anything that can be done to determine the cause and circumstances of her collapse 15 years ago," Bush wrote. "The unanswered questions may be unanswerable, but the attempt should be made."

(2) One week after taking office, Gov. Jeb Bush made a surprise appearance in a Broward County courtroom to stave off a lawsuit against Florida's child welfare agency. He promised to accomplish what no previous governor had managed to do: fix the troubled department. The appearance in January 1999 capped a campaign in which Bush had criticized his predecessors' handling of children's issues, saying he would leave no child behind...

Four years later, as Bush once again campaigns for office, he suddenly is the one on the defensive. It was his administration -- not Democratic Gov. Lawton Chiles' -- that lost track of little Rilya Wilson. It was his appointee to head the Department of Children & Families, former Broward Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Kearney, who admitted that her agency had failed miserably.

Minor political and media-related disadvantages for Rilya Wilson and the prevailing "culture of life" should be readily apparent: non-white, non-womb-bound, and non-brain-dead at the time anyone in Florida's foster care agency noticed she was missing. She was actually murdered, and they've never found her body.

UPDATE: OK, maybe I was too hasty in developing the title for this post; the governor is threatening to veto all school funding.

"No school for you! One year!"

UPDATE 2: Kay Bailey "Breck Girl" Hutchinson is not running for governor in 2006. It shows you how very far my esteem for the governance of the state has fallen when this news actually disappoints me.

"The unanswered questions may be unanswerable, but the attempt should be made."
Jeez, was Jeb channelling Rumsfeld? 'There's the answered questions and the unanswered questions. Then there's the unanswered questions which are answerable, and the unanswered questions which are unanswerable.'

Why does Jeb think that asking questions which might not be answerable in the Schiavo case just has to be pursued. But, asking question which damn well could be answered about his brother's National Guard experience don't even register?

Jeb, does, in fact, have a butt for a cranium. I never realised it before I saw this pic. Nice catch.

He looks more like Eraserhead to me.

Jeb! always looks like he would be a perfect Biff in Back to the Future. The resemblance is awesome.

Maybe Jeb would be more concerned about children being murdered if we termed it as "post-birth abortion."

Whew, that was close! Thanks, Gov. Perry!
