Six Levels Below Absolutely Shameless

It's like Bruce Campbell and an extraterrestrial had a Village of the Damned baby, and it grew up to be a dumbshit Senator

Christ Almighty (and now it's in the Washington Post):

And finally, I – I don't know if there is a cause-and-effect connection but we have seen some recent episodes of courthouse violence in this country. Certainly nothing new, but we seem to have run through a spate of courthouse violence recently that's been on the news. And I wonder whether there may be some connection between the perception in some quarters on some occasions where judges are making political decisions yet are unaccountable to the public, that it builds up and builds up and builds up to the point where some people engage in -- engage in violence. Certainly without any justification but a concern that I have that I wanted to share. [Think Progress has the video here]

Beautiful stuff, John, and my congratulations to the critical reasoning portion (CRP) of your brain that pulled that last sentence out of the air. The CRP must have thought: "What the fuck?!? That sounded like a threat! God, I hate the rest of this brain. Oh well, time to undo the damage. I might even throw in a Sesame Street word like 'share' and produce a discolored smile for the C-Span camera."

Dig: I actually stayed awake for a few civics classes back in the day. Assuming you're talking about the federal judiciary, those are lifetime appointments. You actually had a hand in confirming them in your role as a Senator. You also have an extraordinary measure called impeachment that you can use against these rogue judges who are thwarting the stupid voices in your head (Ironically, you are trying to remove the filibuster through the nuclear option for the craziest 5% of Bush's judicial appointees, so it's safe to say that accountability isn't a constant concern of yours).

Assuming you're talking about state judges, some are nominated and confirmed for less-than lifetime appointments in a similar process. You come from Texas, much to my chagrin. We elect them here. You can vote for somebody else in the next election. Thus, the maintenance of the separation of powers is maintained. That's in the Constitution. I think.

But what stellar insight into the mind of a courthouse shooter-upper! Perhaps you yourself empathize, in that you might have been a sociopathic, gas-huffing loner until Mom and Dad paid for detox and deprogramming and got you a legacy admission into St. Mary's School of Law in San Antonio, where you promptly joined up with another bizarre cult (the Texas GOP) and oozed your way up the ladder, from District Court Judge to the Texas Supreme Court to the Office of the Attorney General in Texas.

Maybe you consulted with militia members, fetus-chuckers, paranoid malcontents, and virulent racists before issuing potentially controversial decisions from the bench, just to make sure you weren't upsetting the absolute fringes of society in order to cover your own ass. It doesn't seem like an optimal way to do business, but you're alive and they're dead, right?

In a way, you're right. I do remember my respect eroding for the judiciary when you were on the bench. I tried voting against you at every turn, but it never worked, much to my frustration. It just builds up and builds up and builds up. Fortunately, I'm not one of the nutcases you provided and then retracted a justification for today. I smoke weed and listen to Neil Diamond to relax. [More from everybody.]

Culture of Life, right? Let me guess. This guy is way into the culture of life, because he thinks you should kill people you disagree with. And I'm the crazy one, I'm the one in love with the pagan death cult, because I think you shouldn't be allowed to gun down judges in cold blood.
Or maybe this guy is taking any opportunity he can to rant about "judical activism", whether or not it has anything to do with the subject at hand.

To quote President Kennedy: "We are in nut country now."

Remember when we thought those "Impeach Earl Warren" billboards were quaint?

I've been wondering for quite a while what these bozos were going to do once they had no more excuses not to govern. Now I know.

We elect our judges in Florida and Judge George Greer was re-elected with 65% of the vote on November, 2004 by an opponent who ran on the basis of Judge Greer's decisions in the Schiavo case. The judicial district is Republican and conservative.

Judge Greer is a conservative Republican and an active member of the Southern Baptist Church. He is also legally blind.
