No Fun With Numbers, Part Two

(First No Fun With Numbers here) Initial aid offering for tsunami disaster: about $15 million, or, as Roxanne notes, approximately 0.6 Will Smiths.

Daily cost of Iraq occupation: about $165 million.

Last missile defense test, shut down by "system anomaly": $85 million.

One hour of interest accumulation on the national debt: $78 million.

How could I forget? Cost of the Presidential inauguration, this year with a military theme: Over $40 million.

At least the worst natural disaster in a century merits more than the amount of federal funding needed by North Dakotan sunflowers to protect against their eternal nemesis, the blackbird. In any event, individuals should continue to assist through a variety of sources.

Funny hearing that $15 million dollar figure Norbes, cause that's the sum Colin Farrell thinks he was overpaid for starring in 'Alexander'!!

update: US announced it would push it up to at least the inauguration budget figure. but who do you think will actually get paid?

The final bill for all the celebrations will be a cool 40 million dollars - a record in US history - mostly financed by donations.

You missed this one little aspect of that $40 million....

Never one to spend others' money for them, I suggest that perhaps the funds donated for caviar and fake military decorations make out of gold tinsel could be matched by the U.S. government's initial pledge to a region with 25,000 drowned children.

You left out: Insincere expression on Dubya's face when forced by worldwide outcry to actually appear in public and make statement on tragedy: Priceless.

Mad Mikey, you missed this little aspect of the cost:

In addition to the 40-million-dollar inauguration bill, slightly higher than in 2001 when Bush first made it to the White House, there is the undetermined cost of the biggest security operation for the first post-9/11 inauguration. The tax payer will pick up that tab.
